Spoons,
Salad Servers, & Spurtles
Spoons: My spoons are cut and carved by hand, and no two are alike. Some are paired as salad serving sets. All are maple and coated with "butcher block" oil, a natural mineral oil especially suited for wooden food-preparation tools and surfaces. $55 Order online!Salad Servers: Traditional spoon and fork style with untraditional folk art head carvings. $75 Order online!Spurtles: The name "spurtle" has been used for several types of stirring implements, the most common type being the Scottish spurtle, which is a thick round stick or turned "bat" for stirring oatmeal. The second most common, and probably the most used around the world, is the brewer's spurtle, a large two-handed paddle with several holes or slots cut through it, used for stirring the mash. The third most common is the cooking spurtle like the ones I carve. The popular chef and cookbook author, Graham Kerr, called this particular stirring implement a spurtle during his Galloping Gourmet days on television. Kerr was born in England, so he was more than likely exposed to a similar instrument during his life there. My spurtles are cut and carved by hand, and no two are alike. All are maple and coated with "butcher block" oil, a natural mineral oil especially suited for wooden food-preparation tools and surfaces. My spurtles are best used for sauces, gravies, soups, and cooked cereals.$55 Order online! |
